From 30^th November to 2^nd December the thematic network organized its 1^st workshop at the University of Melbourne, Australia. The workshop focused on the scientific exchange between the participating German and Australian scientists. 15 Network members as well as a small public audience participated in this scientific workshop. 12 scientific presentations ensured a vital scientific discussion and brought Australian and German members closer together. In addition the workshop week was extremely useful to realize administrative and strategic meetings with Dick Strugnell the Vice chancellor for graduate and international research and his team, Gabriele Suder the director of the International Relations office and her assistant Jessica Piesse, and Simon Evans the Pro-Vice Chancellor International as well as our co-coordinator team Prof. Paul Mulvaney and Alexandra Strich. In particular a strategic long-term cooperation was discussed and first preparatory steps for a joint PhD programme were accomplished. Moreover the network was able to present its aims and activities during a DFG-delegation meeting at the University of Melbourne, which ensured that the project was presented to broad scientific audience at the University of Melbourne.
