University of Melbourne

Established in 1853, the University of Melbourne belongs to the prestigious „group of eight“ top Australian Universities. It makes distinctive contributions to society in research, learning and teaching and engagement. It’s consistently ranked among the leading universities in the world, with international rankings of world universities placing it as number 1 leading comprehensive research-intensive university in Australia and number 32 in the world (Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2017-2018).

Research on novel materials for the life sciences and energy applications are likewise main priorities for the University of Melbourne. Hence, expertise in polymer and colloid science has a strong tradition and led to a ranking among the top 10 Australian research institutes in chemistry, physics and among the top 5 Australian institutes in engineering by the National Report on Excellence in Research for Australia (2012).

The University’s international involvement goes back to its beginnings when its first professors were selected through a committee set up in London (1853). The University is committed to providing academics and students with excellent exchange, research, and networking opportunities with our partner institutions as the University of Bayreuth in the Bayreuth-Melbourne Polymer/Colloid Network.
