The roundtable discussion, jointly organized by the UBT Gateway Office in Melbourne together with the DAAD and the German Embassy Canberra, was a great success. About 80 participants met and discussed current challenges due to the COVID 19 travel restrictions.

In two panel sessions, complemented by breakout and Q&A sessions, IRTG coordinators and representatives of strategic bodies (DAAD, Universities Australia, Group of 8, University of Melbourne) highlighted the problem from their perspective in iimpulse talks. It became quite clear, that all IRTG and Joint PhD programs struggle with the same problem: The closed Australian boarders for entrants.

There is still no quick solution in sight. However, the parties involved will remain in contact to share and pool their knowledge. Besides they agreed in jointly offering workshops for their joint PhDs.
